When Mama Feels Sick

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I have not been feeling well, and I find it’s incredibly difficult to shake an illness as a mom. We are already severely sleep deprived, under nourished, and lacking in adequate time for self-care. Once infected, we struggle to fight the additional internal battle.

I feel like I’ve been walking around like a zombie the last couple of days. Thankfully, my sore throat hasn’t turned into a full blown cold, but the fatigue is unreal. I feel foggy, unfocused, and lethargic. My eye sockets ache from the minute I wake up to the second I fall asleep.

Pre-motherhood I would simply put my life on hold and sleep for a couple of days. Unfortunately this simply isn’t possible now. My children need to be fed, watered, and pottied, and they can’t do this without adult supervision. So as moms, we get to be unwell for far longer than we should be because we can’t actually take the time we need to rest.

So how the heck are we supposed to get better when we barely have time to shower?

The answer ladies is partnership. Ask for help! I told Yev I was having trouble finding time to do laundry, dishes, and pay bills etc. Not only did he carve out time for me to pay the bills during the day, but he also spearheaded the household chores this week. This meant I actually had some time to rest and sleep at night.

One of the best parts of my marriage is that Yev and I are a team in everything we do. We do not belittle each other’s responsibilities or contributions to the family. We appreciate and support each other through difficult times with a happy heart. We definitely have faults, but this is something we do well.

As I finish this article 2-3 hours earlier than usual, I’m pretty thankful for my hubby right now. Two to three more hours of sleep sound glorious.
